Despite living in a coastal community, the women of Jangamo Bay have typically had a limited relationship with the ocean. Traditional gender roles, a high number of drownings in the bay and limited access to menstrual products has kept women from being in the water, and up until very recently, no women knew how to swim. Working to tackle this, marine conservation charity, Love The Oceans, who are providing access to swim training to local women as part of their aquaculture project.
